Festival of Prayer – Festival of Peace

Tara Dance Monlam

23-27 May 2018 Brasilia, Brazil

For centuries the great Tibetan monasteries have held Prayer Festivals, called Monlams.  Every year the monastics present to the community a series of prayers and practices that include gloriously costumed and masked dancers, enacting their sacred commitment to protect and attract well being for all in their care.

In the same spirit, Tara Dhatu will hold a Festival of Prayer – Festival of Peace in Brasilia, Brazil May 23-27, 2018 dancing for peace in our communities, our country and our world. Dancers and Tara practitioners from around the world will gather for five days of activities. Many of the activities will be public offerings, free for all to attend.

Om Tare Tutare Ture Soha

Oh Great Mother Who Removes All Fears

And Bestows Good Fortune, So Be It.

Great Lamas of all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism including His Holiness the Dalai Lama have made sincere requests and prayers that the dance continue to be offered as much as possible as a prayer for peace and for the well being of all.

Brasilia – A Visionary City

Brasilia is the futuristic capital of one of the world’s largest democracies. Monlam visitors will have opportunities to explore the magic of it’s unique architec11745342_721923871251352_1280950772884114638_nture and the surrounding nature of the “High Plateau,” a region of rolling hills and dancing rivers, replete with pools and waterfalls . The weather in May is perfect, with sunshine days and cool breezes.

Dedicated To The Enlightened Feminine

This Monlam is dedicated to the enlightened feminine as embodied by Tara, who is a Buddha, a fully Awakened One. Millennia ago She determined that our world needed the inspiration of an enlightened

female to show that women are capable of the highest spiritual attainments. The practices that have developed around Her transmission of wisdom are empowering and revelatory.

We will use as our guideline a treasure text of the great Tibetan Yogi Chokjur Lingpa. All prayers and meditations will be danced throughout the five day festival.

The heart of the dance is the Mandala Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara, a piece createdSitu in 1982 and presented to the great meditation master, Tai Situ Rinpoche. He declared the dance to be a powerful representation of devotion. He predicted that circles of dancers would gather throughout the world and that a festival would be developed around the dance. He declared the Mandala Dance of Tara to be an accumulation of wisdom as well as merit and has encouraged its practice.
